West St. Louis County consists of seven attractive and unique suburbs on the western side of the St. Louis metropolitan area. All with their own distinctive qualities, the communities of Ballwin, Chesterfield, Clarkson Valley, Manchester, Valley Park, Winchester, Ellisville and Wildwood offer affordable and diverse lifestyles and housing choices for their residents. West St Louis County's popularity has grown considerably over the past five years, and it is now one of the most sought after residential areas in Missouri State.

Ballwin is well known for its superb recreational facilities, with its excellent center, pools, tennis courts, gymnasiums, and top golfing.

The spacious development of Ellisville is appealing for its trees and ample parklands.

Clarkson Valley is an upscale community with Forest Hills Country Club
and is located just south of Chesterfield.

Manchester and Valley Park are growing suburbs that accommodate residential, commercial and industrial facilities. They both have strong historical identities and are close to the many parks and recreation areas in West St Louis.

One of the newer cities of this group, Wildwood has been developed carefully. A focus on planning and sensitivity to the natural environment has lead to a blending of residential areas with the beauty of the natural environment.

Outside these urban areas are three state parks; each a majestic homage to indigenous flora and fauna of this beautiful section of Missouri. At Babler State Park, Rockwoods Reservation Range and Greensfelder County Park residents of West St Louis enjoy river expeditions, hiking, camping, and access to yearly scheduled recreational activities.

West St Louis County offers a variety of lifestyles to its residents, ranging from luxurious estate homes on expansive rural blocks to cozy family homes in friendly tree lined neighborhoods. For those who need a faster pace of life, the county has plenty of condominiums and apartments in upbeat areas where access to the exciting city life is more prominent.

LOCATION

The seven suburbs of West St Louis County are clustered closely together between the main arterials of Highway 100, I-44, and Highway 141.

The central lifeline of the county is Manchester Road, also known as Highway 100. It runs from the center of St Louis city to the suburbs of Winchester, Ballwin, Ellisville and Wildwood linking them together and providing these districts with a plethora of restaurants, shopping centers, specialty boutique stores, modern office complexes and huge entertainment centers.

On Highway 141 the suburb of Manchester lies to north and Valley Park directly to the south creating the square boundaries of the county. All suburbs are easily linked together and only 40 minutes easy drive to the city of St Louis.

TRANSPORTATION/AIRPORTS

All the suburbs of West St Louis are designed for easy travel. Extensive, well designed and well administered highways support ease of driving, even during peak commute times. Excellent public transport provides working adults and children alike with ample choice and the airport and the St Louis city center are easily accessible to anywhere in the county.

BRIEF HISTORY

Originally occupied by the Spanish, the expansive county of West St Louis has grown and flourished over the years. For centuries, the county was primarily forest and rich farm land but the increasing urbanization after World War Two led to much urban development, since the nineteen-eighties especially.

What makes West St Louis County so popular to so many people is the variety of housing, and quality of life available there. While homes are affordable, sensitive urban planning supports green cities, with plenty of parks, trees, and wilderness areas. Many places still maintain a semi rural and neighborly quality.
